The article explores the terminology distinctions between English for specific purposes (ESP), particularly English for Science and Technology (EST), and General English (GE), emphasizing the importance of tailored linguistic objectives for future English teachers. It discusses the evolution of foreign language teaching, highlighting the shift towards teaching English as a necessity in various professional contexts due to globalization. Additionally, it traces the historical development of geological terminology, particularly in Farsi, and identifies stages in its evolution. It underscores the role of geological terminology in enriching language vocabulary through various word formation methods. Finally, the challenges students face
in comprehending scientific English due to reliance on literal translation are discussed, advocating for strategies to enhance language skills in scientific fields. The article is enriched with references providing further insights into the discussed topics.
