Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanisms of neuromuscular plasticity and the factors underlying individual variability in clinical and electrophysiological responses to botulinum toxin type A therapy in children with cerebral palsy (CP). A comprehensive clinical-neurological, functional, and electromyographic assessment was performed before and after botulinum toxin administration, with evaluation of changes at systemic, tissue, and molecular levels. The obtained results were compared with the outcomes of conventional methods for the treatment of spasticity. The findings demonstrate that the effectiveness of botulinum therapy is determined not only by the dose and localization of injections, but also by the degree of preserved neuromuscular plasticity, patient age, type of cerebral palsy, and level of motor activity.
