Abstract

This article provides detailed information about Professor Ergash Umarov’s short monograph «Old Uzbek Dictionaries» (p. 34), which is still unknown to scholars and readers, despite the fact that it is thirty years since its publication. All the dictionaries («Badoi-al-lugat», «Lugati Navoi», «Abushqa», «Lugati turkiy», «Sangloh», «Kitabi lugati atrokiya», «Farhangi hazrat Mir Alisher
Mulaqqab ba al Navoi”) analyzed in it are intended to explain the works of Alisher Navoi. The monograph focuses on the views of the authors of dictionaries on the sounds of the Uzbek language, in particular, the number of vowels, spelling, pronunciation, forms (length, brevity); The fact that the number of vowels is set to six does not reflect the phonetic, phonological, melodic and national potential of our language. Reading this article will not leave the reader, especially experts in the field, indifferent, it will encourage them to think about the future of the sounds of our language
