THE IMPORTANCE OF BREAST ARTERIAL CALCIFICATION IN STRATIFICATION OF CARDIOVASCULAR RISK IN WOMEN
Keywords:
breast artery calcification, women, mammography, cardiovascular riskAbstract
In addition to the assessment of traditional risk factors, assessment of breast arterial calcification on digital mammograms may play a role in detecting and assessing the severity of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. The purpose of our study was to study of breast arterial calcification during screening mammography in asymptomatic Uzbek women over 40 years of age without known cardiovascular diseases. Materials and methods. In the Khorezm branch of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Center of Oncology and Radiology, 5570 digital mammograms of women who underwent mammographic screening were retrospectively analyzed. Mammograms from 2672 women over 40 years of age without known cardiovascular disease were selected for analysis. For each breast, mediolateral oblique and craniocaudal images obtained on a workstation SINO (China) were reviewed. In uzbek women over 40 years of age without cardiovascular pathology, a high frequency of BAC was detected and it amounted to 11.9%. An increase in the frequency and severity of BAC with age has been observed. To adequately assess cardiovascular risk, simultaneous screening for breast cancer and cardiovascular disease is advisable. The women with detected breast arterial calcification require in-depth cardiac examination.
