The article examines, as far as possible, precise and systematizable criteria for determining the role of rhyme in Russian folklore of the 19th-20th centuries. The "semantic factor" of rhyme in proverbs and sayings is considered as a function of the grammatical and lexical structure of rhyme.
The purpose of the work is to establish certain patterns in the lexical and grammatical structure of Russian rhyme, as well as to establish the relationship between the lexical and grammatical structure of rhyme and its role in paremias with predominantly semantic or predominantly melodic activity.
