Abstract

Strokeis the thirdleadingcause of disability in adultsworldwide, andlowerlimbmotordisordersareoneof the maindeterminants of long-termdisability. It isestimated that twothirds of people who have suffered a strokehaveconsequencesthataffect their qualityoflife.Earlyrehabilitationafterstroke is beginning to be recognized as important, and more and moreattention is being paid to it in order to furtherrestorelostmotorfunctionsand, as aresult, improve the quality of life of patients.Earlyactivation of patientsis an importantelement of the rehabilitationprocess.Thesooner the patientbegins to activelyparticipateinphysicalandfunctionalrehabilitation, thehigher the probability of fullrecovery.Variousmethodsandapproaches are usedinrehabilitationtoachievethesegoals.Physicaltherapyiscentral to therestoration of motorfunctions. An importanttoolforassessing the functionalstateandprogressinrehabilitationis the Barthelscale, whichallows an objectivemeasurement of the patient's level of independenceindailylife.
