This article examines the place of medical sociology within the system of sociological
sciences, its scientific object and subject, main functions, interdisciplinary nature, and its significance
in analyzing health-related social problems. Medical sociology is presented as a science that
contributes to the healthy development of society by studying the socio-economic, cultural,
psychological, and political factors that influence human health. The article analyzes the historical
stages of the development of medical sociology – from early theoretical foundations to modern
innovative directions. It also explores the concept of social diseases, their impact on society and the
economy, and the sociological analysis of factors such as poverty, unemployment, education level,
environmental conditions, and gender inequality. Special attention is given to the role of the mahalla
institution in Uzbekistan as a mechanism of social and medical support, as well as to the national and
cultural perceptions of health. The article advocates for the improvement of the healthcare system,
reduction of social inequalities, and effective use of sociological knowledge in public health policy.
By combining core theoretical perspectives and applied research, the article highlights medical
sociology as an independent and relevant field within sociology.
