Болезнь Паркинсона (БП) — прогрессирующее нейродегенеративное заболевание, поражающее двигательные и когнитивные функции. Генетика и факторы окружающей среды играют важную роль в этиологии болезни Паркинсона. Нейромедиатор дофамин участвует в регуляции движения, мотивации, памяти и других физиологических процессов. У людей с болезнью Паркинсона потеря дофаминергических нейронов приводит к снижению уровня дофамина и вызывает наблюдаемые у пациентов когнитивные нарушения. Были изучены различные механизмы снижения уровня дофамина у пациентов с болезнью Паркинсона, такие как нарушения альфа- синуклеина, митохондриальная дисфункция и токсичность 3,4-дигидрофенилацетальдегида (ДФА).
