Abstract

The article describes the definition of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), reveals the relevance of the problem of autism spectrum disorders in children, and presents a modern perspective on the possible etiological and pathogenetic aspects of these conditions. The classification of autism and important changes in the new American Psychiatric Association classifier regarding autism spectrum disorders are examined. The difficulties associated with diagnosing autism spectrum disorders in children, the comorbidity of autism and a number of other psychiatric nosologies, and the need for careful differential diagnosis within the framework of these diseases are mentioned. Autism spectrum disorders are presented from the perspective of clinical genetics, and the necessity of medical-genetic counseling for diagnosis is proven. In the group of children with essential autism, the effectiveness of the standard molecular genetic diagnostic procedure at each stage has been demonstrated, according to literature data. The clinical symptoms, clinical diagnostic methods are briefly described, and recommendations for managing patients with ASD are provided. Also, examples of celebrities who suffered from various variations of ASD are given.
