This article examines the work of the leading Canadian orientalist Maria Subtelny from the University of Toronto on Persian literature and Central Asian studies. Her extensive work on the military state of the Timurids of the XIV-XVI centuries in Movaraunnahr and Khorasan opens up a new look at the history of these regions. Nearly forty years of scholarly research on Islamic Sufism, Timurid history, Persian literature, Islam in Central Asia before the Russian conquest, in the Soviet era, and the implications of the post-Soviet era for Sufism in general make her work valuable.
