THE PHENOMENON OF IRONY: LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY DESCRIPTION

ABSTRACT

The article focuses on irony, which is a means of artistic image, and its linguistic description. The lexicographical and terminological description of this word and related figurative means in some dictionaries and other works is covered. Particular importance is attached to the description of irony in classical Uzbek literature and world linguistics. At the same time, the text is discussed, which is considered as one of the problematic and controversial issues in linguistics of the 20th century, and the relationships focused on the manifestation of irony in it. The author responded to these opinions and comments from his own point of view and came to the appropriate conclusions.

The work presents specific views on the definition of irony to this day and its linguistic and artistic concept.
