J.C. CATFORD’S CLASSIFICATION OF TRANSLATION TRANSFORMATIONS AND THEIR PRACTICAL APPLICATION IN ERNEST HEMINGWAY’S “TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT”

This article examines the problem of reproducing an author’s individual stylistic features in the process of literary translation, as well as the responsibility of the translator in this process. The research is based on the novel To Have and Have Not and its translation, analyzing the extent to which the distinctive characteristics of Ernest Hemingway’s style—such as brevity and conciseness of expression, simplicity of syntactic structures, and the predominance of dialogue are preserved in translation.
As a result of the analysis, stylistic inconsistencies in literary translation are identified, and practical recommendations are proposed to minimize them and improve the overall quality of translation.
