THE ROLE OF AHMED BEK AGAYEV AND HIS PARTY “DIFAI” IN THE FIGHT AGAINST DASHNAK TERROR IN KARABAKH AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY

The article examines the activities of the radical national party of Azerbaijan “Difai” in the early twentieth century based on new archival documents and materials. The party was created by Ahmed bey Agayev, a well-known socio-political figure not only in Azerbaijan, but in the entire Turkic world. The party “Difai” was created to protect the peaceful Azerbaijani population from attacks by Dashnak gangs. The party generally opposed Dashnak terrorism in the South Caucasus and was in favor of the physical preservation of the Azerbaijani Turks. The main goal of this party was to educate the people, improve their social status, fight against the colonial policy of tsarism, and fight for the national rights of Azerbaijanis.
