This article is devoted to the analysis of documentary sources about the socio-economic life of the management of mountain districts created by the Russian Empire in 1870-1871. as a result of the occupation of Kishtut, Mohiyan, Farob, Matcho, Yagnob, Falgar. , Fan, Ormitan, Varzimnor, located in the upper reaches of the Zarafshan River. In particular, on the basis of a structural analysis of administrative documents of the court of the Governor-General of Turkestan and the court of the head of the Zarafshan province, the subordination of the Upper Zarafshan oasis to the Russian Empire and the organization of management of the mountainous region, its economic and social history is revealed.
