Abstract

Bactria (Bactriana) is a historical and cultural region in Central Asia, located in the middle reaches of the Amudarya between the Hisar range and the Indian Kush (now Southern Uzbekistan, Southern Tadjikistan, Northern Afghanistan, and South-Eastern Turkmenistan). This historical and cultural region was part of the Achaemenid Empire in the 6-4th century BC, and during this period, the traditions of local statehood were further developed in this area. The history of the Bactrian satrapy which is considered one of the main satrapy regions of the Achaemenid Empire is partially illuminated in several written sources such as the Achaemenid inscriptions, Elam, Babylon, and Aramaic sources. The scientific analysis of this type of source helps to obtain valuable information about the history of the political, and socio-economic of the Bactrian satrapy, and the lifestyle of the population. It is illuminated the issues of source studies of the Bactria satrapy.
