FROM THE HISTORY OF THE FORMATION AND HYDROLOGICAL CHANGES OF THE ARAL SEA

The article analyses the history of formation and hydrological changes of the Aral Sea. Since the Neogene period, tectonic movements in the Turan lowland and constant changes in the direction of flow of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers have determined the formation of the sea and the dynamics of the water level. At different stages of historical development, the rise and fall of the Aral Sea water level occurred due to climate change, geographical transformations and human economic activity. In particular, the construction or destruction of irrigation systems has significantly changed the water flow.
