ECONOMIC AND MONETARY POLICY OF RUSSIA IN THE KHIVA KHANATE (based on some studies)

The article analyses the monetary policy implemented by the Russian Empire in the Khanate of Khiva at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, based on specific research. It examines the economic sanctions noted in the sources, the circulation of coinage in the khanate, their exchange rate against the Russian ruble, seasonal exchange rate fluctuations and restrictions, as well as the independent policy of the Ministry of Finance from 1895 onwards. The results of the analysis indicate that the aim of Russian policy was the gradual suppression of the local currency, the expansion of the use of the ruble, and the linkage of the Khivan market to the imperial financial system.
