IRRIGATION AND AGRICULTURE IN THE KHIVA KHANATE: FACTORS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Water and related irrigation works played an important role in the economy of the Khiva Khanate and in the daily activities of the population. Issues such as the construction of new canals, the development of new lands, and the expansion of irrigation works were one of the main factors determining the economic life and political position of the khanate. The development of agriculture, one of the main branches of the economic life of the Khiva Khanate, was considered a decisive factor in the development of the khanate. The water management opportunities created by the Amu Darya and its irrigation system laid the foundation for the sustainable development of agriculture. This article analyzes the issue of irrigation and agriculture in the Khiva Khanate and the factors of economic development.
