ASSESSMENT OF FREQUENCY OF METEOROLOGICAL DROUGHTS UNDER THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Keywords:
meteorological drought, drought classification, SPI, hydrological year, climatic periodAbstract
The study examined standardized precipitation index which represents a meteorological drought on the example of a Pskem Basin. The standardized precipitation index was calculated based on the precipitation data observed in Pskem meteorological station. Based on the drought classification, frequency of standardized precipitation indexes at different time scales were studied in the baseline and current climatic periods. It was found that, extreme and severe drought increased in the current climatic period comparing to the baseline climatic period.
