This article reveals the elements of the formation of the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies in students on the basis of the State Educational Standard in geography lessons, the methods of using maps, their types, the ability to read and understand maps, symbols applied to them, the use of various scaling methods when finding the distance between these objects.
