From an analysis of the literature, it follows that at present, congenital heart disease occupies a leading position in prevalence compared to other developmental defects in children and remains the main cause of child mortality. This conclusion prompted us to conduct our own study of the medical and social characteristics of patients with heart defects. 300 patients were examined, aged from 0 to 90 years. The main group consisted of 150 (50%) patients with congenital heart defects: ventricular septal defect (VSD), atrial septal defect (ASD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and combined defects (a combination of two or all three heart defects). The control group included 150 (50%) healthy patients. 86 (57,33%) patients of the main group were on long-term drug treatment, correction of congenital heart defects by surgical or invasive methods was carried out in 56 (37,33%) patients, deaths were 5, 34% (8 cases). Women made up 52% (156 patients), men - 48% (144 patients). Based on the obtained data, it can be concluded that female representatives are more likely to suffer from congenital heart defects. You should also be more attentive to non-specific complaints of girls (such as shortness of breath, palpitations) for timely diagnosis of congenital heart disease, which will improve the quality of life of women in older age periods, and reduce the percentage of late diagnosis and operations in women.
