Abstract

Riedel’s thyroiditis is one of the most enigmatic forms of inflammatory disorders of the thyroid gland. It is an extremely rare condition characterized by the replacement of normal thyroid parenchyma with dense fibrous tissue, which may lead to severe local and systemic complications. Over the past two decades, the understanding of this disease has evolved substantially following the recognition of its association with IgG4-related systemic disease. This review aims to summarize current insights into the etiology, diagnostic strategies, and therapeutic approaches for Riedel’s thyroiditis.
