Abstract

Nodular goiter is a collective clinical concept that unites nodular formations of the thyroid gland of various morphologies. The high prevalence of iodine deficiency contributes to the development of thyroid pathologies, such as diffuse goiter, thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. Purpose of the study: to study the prevalence of thyroid nodules in the regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Karakalpakstan based on patient visits to the advisory clinic of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Endocrinology named after Academician Y.Kh. Turakulov. Materials and methods of the study: outpatient records of 90 patients who came in January 2024 and were diagnosed with nodular or multinodular goiter were studied. All patients had an ultrasound of the thyroid gland and their thyroid status was assessed. Results: when examining thyroid function, the average TSH level was 2.6±2.4 mIU/ml, free T4 0.99±0.39 ng/dl. 75% (68) of patients had euthyroidism (TSH 1.6±0.8), 10% (9) had subclinical hypothyroidism (TSH 5.5±1.7), 8% (7) manifest hypothyroidism (TSH 49, 3±45) and 7% (6) of patients had thyrotoxicosis (TSH 0.11±0.1). Conclusions: 25% of patients with thyroid nodules who sought consultation had impaired thyroid function, both in the form of hypothyroidism and thyrotoxicosis. 38% of patients had an enlarged thyroid gland.
