Abstract

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) remains a significant problem in dentistry due to its high prevalence and considerable impact on patients’ quality of life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of topical phage therapy in RAS. Materials and methods. The study included 23 patients with a moderate form of the disease, divided into the main group (treated with bacteriophage) and the comparison group (standard therapy). The dynamics of pain, epithelialisation time, and recurrence rate were assessed. Results. Patients in the main group demonstrated earlier pain reduction (on days 2–3), faster epithelialisation (4.1 ± 0.6 days vs. 6.3 ± 0.8 days in the comparison group, p<0.05), and a lower recurrence rate during 6 months of follow-up (25% vs. 58.3%). Conclusions. The obtained results confirm the high clinical efficacy of bacteriophage and its potential as a promising topical therapeutic approach in RAS management.
