LAPAROSCOPIC REPAIR OF PERFORATED ULCERS: ADVANTAGES AND CLINICAL OUTCOMES
Keywords:
laparoscopy, perforated ulcer, minimally invasive surgery, ulcer repairAbstract
This study analyzed the outcomes of laparoscopic and open repair of perforated gastroduodenal ulcers in 112 patients. A comparative analysis showed that the laparoscopic method is not inferior to open surgery in terms of perforation closure efficiency but significantly reduces the rate of postoperative complications (17.9% vs. 39.3%, p=0.006), including surgical wound infections (1.8% vs. 14.3%, p=0.03). Patients who underwent laparoscopic repair experienced less postoperative pain, required fewer analgesics, and recovered faster, as evidenced by a shorter hospital stay (6 vs. 8 days, p<0.01). Mortality rates between the groups did not differ statistically (1.8% vs. 5.4%, p=0.30). The findings confirm the safety and effectiveness of laparoscopic perforated ulcer repair and support its use as the preferred method in the absence of contraindications.
