O'qish ingliz tilini o'rganishda muhim rol o'ynaydi. Standart va nostandart o'qish usullaridan foydalanish chet tilini o'qitish metodikasining asosiy masalalaridan biridir.

 Ushbu maqolaning maqsadi o'qish ko'nikmalarini o'rgatishda qo'llanilishi mumkin bo'lgan muqobil, noan'anaviy strategiyalarni tahlil qilishdir. Maqolada adabiyotlar ko'rib chiqiladi, o'qish nutq faoliyatining bir turi sifatida tavsiflanadi, o'qishni o'rgatish, turli mezonlarga muvofiq tasniflashda qo'llanilishi mumkin bo'lgan har xil yondashuvlar ko'rsatilgan. O'qish malakasini shakllantirish muammosining nazariy asoslanishi berilgan.

O'quv jarayonida an'anaviy va noan'anaviy o'qish turlaridan foydalanishning o'ziga xos xususiyatlariga alohida e'tibor qaratiladi, fonemikaning ta'rifi berilgan va yangi o'qish sxemalari berilgan. O'qitishni o'qitishning zamonaviy uslubida matnni idrok etish, personajlarni, harakatlarni tahlil qilish va muhokama qilish, muloqot qilish ko'nikmalarini rivojlantirish ustuvor vazifa ekanligi ta'kidlangan.
