Abstract

Proverbs play a significant role in the reflection of the particular culture. Their translation usually poses problems to translators, since proverbs are based on the experience and wisdom of a certain culture, which speaks their own language in defined historical periods. This study aims to explore some translation problems of proverbs from English into Uzbek utilizing the theory of equivalence. Although equivalence is regarded as the best way of translating proverbs, it poses certain difficulties in translation of these expressions from English into Uzbek.
