This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the discursive and pragmatic features of English proverbs expressing speech etiquette and verbal politeness. The study examines the communicative functions of proverbs, their pragmatic impact, patterns of usage in discourse, and their linguocultural significance. Particular attention is paid to the concepts of politeness, respect, tactfulness, caution, and speech culture reflected in English folk proverbs from the perspective of modern pragmalinguistics and discourse analysis. The article also highlights the role of proverbs in regulating social relations and shaping communicative strategies and tactics. Descriptive, discursive-pragmatic, linguocultural, and comparative methods were employed in the research process. Through the comparative analysis of English and Uzbek proverbs, semantic and pragmatic similarities as well as differences were identified. The findings demonstrate that proverbs function not only as linguistic units but also as important pragmatic tools reflecting national mentality, cultural values, and communicative behavior within society.
