S.A.ASKOLD’S ARTICLE “CONCEPT AND WORD”

Abstract

The material offered to your attention in Uzbek belongs to the famous Russian scientist of the XX century S.A.Askoldov. This is the author's article of the same name, first published in 1928, as part of the 2nd book of the new series of collections “Russian Speech” edited by Professor L.V. Shcherba. Later, almost 70 years later (in 1997), the article was included and published in the anthology “Russian Literature: from the theory of literature to the structure of the text” edited by V.P.Neroznak.

The article is devoted to the question of the verbal expression of the concept, its conceptual and figurative nature, in which the author classifies concepts into two main types. These are cognitive (in the modern approach, cognitive), as well as artistic concepts. As the most striking characteristic of the concept, the scientist identifies its “substitute function”.

This article summarizes the linguophilosophical, linguocognitive views of the scientist regarding imaginative thinking, three types of understanding of the concepts of cognition, artistic concepts, as well as the understanding of the word as a component, an integral part of the concept, which still retain their significance and relevance.
