Язвенный колит (ЯК) - это хроническое воспаление толстой кишки, преимущественно встречающееся среди трудоспособной молодежи и имеющее социальное значение. Заболеваемость и распространенность язвенного колита во всем мире составляет 1,2-20,3% и 7,6-245 случаев на 100 000 населения в год соответственно. Европейские исследования описывают влияние язвенного колита на качество и уровень жизни пациентов, их занятость, отношения с окружающими. Поздняя диагностика заболевания, тяжелые и осложненные формы указывают на его скрытое течение.
