INFLUENCE OF SURFACE PROPERTIES OF DENTAL CERAMICS ON BACTERIAL ADHESION: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW
Keywords:
dental ceramics, CAD/CAM ceramics, bacterial adhesion, biofilm, Streptococcus mutans, surface microtopography.Abstract
The analyzed data did not provide sufficient evidence to confirm the influence of electrostatic surface charge on bacterial attachment to dental ceramics. However, most studies demonstrated a relationship between the degree of bacterial colonization and parameters such as surface free energy and topographical features. A deeper understanding of the physicochemical properties of ceramic materials that reduce microbial adhesion may support the development of restorative materials less susceptible to biofilm formation.
