A PHILOSOPHICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CRISIS OF WESTERN ORIENTALISM IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY

Abstract

This article is dedicated to the scientific research of scholars such as Anwar Abdel-Malek, Abdel-Latif Tibawi, and Edward Said, who were active in the second half of the 20th century and were among the first to propose a critical reassessment of Oriental studies. The research they conducted led to controversy and a subsequent crisis in the field of Asian and African studies. At the same time, it prompted a reinterpretation of the essence of Oriental studies and a change in the traditional perception of the East. New methodologies began to emerge, the colonial history of the East and its earlier stages were revisited, and new phenomena such as postcolonial theory and the theory of colonial discourse took shape in social thought. The article examines the resonances and transformational trends in the field of Oriental studies at the end of the 20th century, alongside the aforementioned Orientalist philosophers.
