RENE GUENON AND ANANDA COOMARASWAMY: THE EXPERIENCE OF PHILOSOPHICAL REFLECTION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SEARCH FOR WAYS TO SYNTHESIZE EAST AND WEST

This article examines the general and specific features of the scientific activity and segments of traditionalism of the indologist, art historian Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy and the famous French traditionalist thinker Rene Guenon. The contribution of Coomaraswamy, whose activities took place during the formation and heyday of the science of Indian art, to the concept of traditionalism is noted. Few specialists can compare with him in terms of volume, depth and quality of writing. Along with this, the elements of the doctrine of the Primordial tradition of the founder of the school of modern integral traditionalism, Rene Guenon, are touched upon. The works of Coomaraswamy and Guenon, their approaches to the interpretation of the antithesis "East-West" became a kind of school for a whole galaxy of scientists of the second half of the 20th century.
