O'smirlik-bu insoniyat rivojlanishining noyob bosqichi bo'lib, unda o'g'il-qizlar o'z shaxsiyatini topish va mustaqil va o'zini o'zi ta'minlaydigan kattalar bo'lish uchun sayohatlarini boshlaydilar. Bu aqliy va hissiy farovonlik uchun muhim bo'lgan ijtimoiy va hissiy odatlarni rivojlantirish uchun juda muhim davr. Tez jismoniy, kognitiv, hissiy va psixososyal rivojlanish o'smirlarning tashqi va ichki muhit bilan fikrlashi, his qilishi va o'zaro ta'siriga ta'sir qiladi. Dunyo miqyosida har yetti o'spirindan birida (10 yoshdan 19 yoshgacha) ruhiy salomatlik buzilishi borligi taxmin qilinmoqda; depressiya, tashvish va xulq-atvorning buzilishi yo'l ko'rsatadi.
