Янги туғилган чақалоқларда сариқликнинг патологик курси замонавий дунёда долзарб муаммо ҳисобланади. Гипербилирубинемия
билан миянинг чуқур илдизларида билирубиннинг умумий миқдорини тўплаш табиати тўлиқ аниқланмаган. Бугунги кунга келиб,
билирубин энсефалопатиясининг клиникаси ва прогнози чуқур ўрганилмоқда. Билирубиннинг тўпланиши натижасида базал ганглионлар,
гипоталамус, мия поясининг ядролари (масалан, окуломотор, кохлеар, вестибуляр ядролар) ва мия сариқ рангга эга бўлади. Янги туғилган
чақалоқларнинг сариқлиги ўткир билирубинли энсефалопатия туфайли морбид ва преморбид ҳолатларни келтириб чиқаради, асоратлар
натижасида хорио-атетоид мия ярим палси кузатилади. Нейрон некрози ва базал ганглионлар ва мия сопи ядроларидаги нейронларнинг
сарғайиши натижасида юзага келадиган патологик ҳолат қайд этилади
