ABSTRACT

This article discusses the definitions of proverbs and sayings, which are considered paremiological units in Uzbek, Russian, French and English linguistics, as well as their semantic, functional and grammatical use. Proverbs and sayings always advise, command and keep people from evil. They have three main aspects: clarity, conveyance of meaning and beautiful comparison. Each nation with its own language has its own proverbs and sayings that have been honed over centuries. This article provides detailed information on the differences between proverbs and sayings in linguistics.
