         ABSTRACT

The review examines the significance of the doctrine of the actual division of a sentence, the main provisions of which were formulated by V. Mathesius (1882-1946), a Czech linguist, one of the founders of the Prague Linguistic Circle, in his articles “On the so-called actual division of a sentence” and “Basic function of word order in the Czech language”, at the present stage.
