Semirish surunkali va takrorlanuvchi kasallik bo'lib, nafaqat metabolizmni buzadi, balki yurak- qon tomir kasalliklari uchun ham havf omilidir. Semizlikni davolashda xulq-atvorni o’zgartirish muhim ahamiyatga ega bo'lsa-da, ideal vaznga erishish va uzoq muddatli vazn yo'qotishini saqlab qolish qiyin. Shuning uchun bemorda QD kabi semizlik bilan bog'liq kasalliklarga ega bo'lgan bemorlarda TVI ≥30 kg/m2 va TVI ≥27 kg/m2 bo'lganda medikamentoz terapiyani boshlash qat'iy tavsiya qilinadi. Farmakoterapiya va xulq-atvorni o’zgartirish birlashtirilganda sezilarli vazn yo'qotish va kardiometabolizmni yaxshilanishiga olib kelishi haqida yetarli ma’lumotlar bor.
Semizlikni uzoq muddatli nazorat qilish strategiyalaridan biri shundaki, vazn yo'qotish uchun dorilar har bir bemorga, ularning yondosh kasalliklari va xohishlariga qarab moslashtirilishi kerak.
