COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT OF DENTAL AND BONE APPARATUS DURING RAPID EXPANSION OF THE UPPER JAW IN CHILDREN
Keywords:
orthodontics, rapid expansion of the upper jaw, apparatus for expanding the upper jawAbstract
Currently, data has been accumulated that illuminate the main undesirable effects and changes that occur when using ortodontic devices for rapid expansion of the upper jaw in children. Bone apparatus not only provides skeletal expansion due to the rupture of the middle palatine suture, but also causes significant changes in the inclination of the lateral teeth, as well as their slight extraction, which can disrupt the vertical parameters of the occlusion. Additionally, the forces developed by such devices can lead to adverse changes in the supporting teeth and surrounding tissues, including root resorption, reduction in the height and maxillary thickness of the alveolar bone, and contribute to the development of gingival recession.
