Sotsolingvistik kompetensiya sotsiolingvistikaning muhim omili hisoblanib, horijiy tilni o’rganish va undan to’g’ri foydalanishning asosi bo’lib, hizmat qiladi. Bu maqolada sotsiolingvistik kompetensiya haqida to’liq ma’lumot berishga harakat qilamiz shuningdek uning til o’rganish jarayonidagi ahamiyati va o’ziga xos jihatlarini ko’rib chiqamiz. Talaba uchun bu kompetensiyaning muhim qirralarini ko’rib chiqamiz. Aytish mumkinki, Sotsiolingvistik kompetensiya til o’rganuvchi talabaning qo’lidagi oltin kaliti desak ham bo’laveradi. Chunki, har qancha horijiy tilni mukammal bilmaylik, undan to’g’ri va o’rinli foydalana olish qiyin masala hisoblanadi. Horijiy tilda nafaqat ravon so’zlay olish yoki uni tushunish balki, savolga munosib javob bera olish yoki, vaziyatga to’g’ri baho berish va til egalari bilan erkin muloqotga kirish qobiliyatiga ega bo’lish ham kerak bo’ladi. Ayni shu holat so’zlovchining sotiolingvistik kompetensiyasining darjasini belgilaydi.
