Abstract

Phrases are an important component of language, and they mainly serve to reflect cultural nuances, emotional experiences, and pragmatic meanings. Their use in literature not only enriches the text, but also reflects the socio-cultural context in which they appeared. Ian McEwan, a well- known British writer known for his complex stories and deep psychological insights, uses idioms in his works in ways that reveal pragmatic features. This article explores these dimensions in McEwan's works and shows how idioms contribute to the artistic landscape of literature.
