This article is devoted to the issues of the category of universalism in the works of the French romantic writers Guy de Maupassant and Gustave Flaubert in the works «Bel-Ami» and «Madame Bovary» which represent the landscape of the French bourgeois world of the XIX th century. This article talks about the similarity in the style of the writers Guy de Maupassant and Gustave Flaubert and the universality of the characters of the main characters of the work, the simple peasant son Georges Durois («Bel-Ami») and the wife of a simple country doctor, Emma Bovary («Madame Bovary») goes.
