Abstract

The article is devoted to a discursive analysis of Korean news media discourse in the context of the representation of socially and politically significant events. The study examines the theoretical foundations of discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis, as well as their application to the investigation of news texts as ideologically conditioned forms of media communication. The empirical basis of the research consists of publications from the American newspaper The New York Times, the Korean news agency Yonhap News, and materials from Korean media outlets with different editorial orientations.

The results demonstrate that the same event is framed differently depending on the sociocultural context and the ideological positions of media sources: American media emphasize the impact of events on the everyday lives of the population, whereas Korean outlets focus on economic and financial consequences.

The study concludes that the language of news texts functions as a tool for the representation of ideologies and the formation of public perception of events.
