THE ROLE OF UNDIFFERENTIATED CONNECTIVE TISSUE DYSPLASIA IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CERVICAL INSUFFICIENCY AND PRETERM BIRTH

Isthmic-cervical insufficiency (ICI) occupies one of the leading positions among the causes of preterm birth in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. In recent years, special attention has been paid to the functional forms of ICI, the development of which is associated with systemic connective tissue disorders. The article presents the results of a prospective study, aimed at studying the role of undifferentiated connective tissue dysplasia (uCTD) in the development of isthmic-cervical insufficiency and preterm birth. A total of 114 pregnant women with ICI were examined and divided into three groups depending on the presence and severity of undifferentiated connective tissue dysplasia (uCTD). It was found that uCTD is associated with impaired collagen metabolism, early cervical shortening, and adverse obstetric outcomes. The obtained data confirm the pathogenetic significance of uCTD in the development of functional ICI and substantiate the need for its early diagnosis.
