COPING STRATEGIES AND SPECIFIC FACTORS OF PROFESSIONAL STRESS OF DENTISTS

During the process of experiencing psychological stress, activation of vegetative processes is observed. Reactions of the autonomic nervous system manifest themselves in the form of autonomic changes, which are a consequence of the perception of signals, psycho-emotional changes, maladaptation and emotional-behavioral reactions. Reactive behavioral reactions arise under the influence of acute emotional stress, while vegetative changes depend on the dynamics of motor and metabolic processes, as well as homeostatic reactivity. These manifestations lose their specificity and begin to resemble vegetative reactions observed during non-emotional influences. The nature of vegetative manifestations during psychological stress depends to a greater extent on the protective process that occurs in dental specialists. Dentistry as a medical specialty differs from other fields: the level of psycho-emotional stress here is significantly higher than that of other medical workers. This is due to the negative consequences of interpersonal interactions with patients and the administration of medical organizations, as well as high competition among specialists and strict requirements for treatment results. Often the final treatment result does not meet expectations, which can lead to conflict situations. Overcoming these difficulties is associated with a high level of responsibility for the patient’s health and the quality of treatment, which in turn causes psychosomatic stress and the constant use of the body’s reserve capabilities. This affects the reduction of the endurance of specialists.
