RISK FACTORS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF VASCULAR DEMENTIA
Keywords:
vascular dementia, moderate cognitive impairmentAbstract
Vascular dementia is an important medical and social problem. In order to study the role of risk factors in the development of vascular dementia, a clinical neuroimaging study was carried out in 45 patients with vascular dementia aged 55 to 80 years. The control group consisted of 31 patients with moderate cognitive impairment (MCI) associated with stage II discirculatory encephalopathy. Prognostically significant risk factors for the development of vascular dementia in patients aged 50-59 years were coronary artery disease and hyperlipidemia, at the age of 60-69 years - coronary artery disease and diabetes mellitus, at the age of 70-79 years - hyperlipidemia. A neuroimaging study showed an association between the development of dementia in patients with MCI and the localization and prevalence of diffuse changes in the white matter of the brain.
