The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), has become one of the most significant challenges for global healthcare in the 21st century. Since its first detection in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, the pathogen has spread worldwide, affecting millions of people and causing a wide range of clinical manifestations - from asymptomatic forms to severe respiratory disorders with fatal outcomes. SARS-CoV-2 belongs to the Coronaviridae family of coronaviruses and is a membrane RNA virus with a positive polarity of the genome. Understanding the life cycle of the virus, the mechanisms of COVID-19 pathogenesis, and the characteristics of cytokine storm development are crucial for developing effective therapeutic strategies and preventive measures.
