RELATION OF POTTERY TERMS WITH POLYSEMY

Abstract

ABSTRACT

This article is devoted to the disclosure of the phenomenon of ambiguity and unambiguity in the general vocabulary of the language on the example of pottery terms. Along with other branches of craft, the emergence of the phenomenon of ambiguity was investigated in pottery terminology. The article explores a broad analysis of the ambiguity of words and terms related to pottery contained in the five-volume “Dictionary of the Uzbek language”. Ceramics in terms of also derived meaning has been observed to result in a state of ambiguity. The terminological layer related to the industry was formed over a long period in an artistic style, which led to the preservation of the uniqueness of the types and patterns of dishes in certain regions. In most patterns and names of colors on their objects, characteristic of industry terminology, the properties of ambiguity were demonstrated by the actual material in the study.
